Description: The characteristics of dental materials of diverse nature are briefly described and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. A promising direction in dental materials science is development of silicate materials, which have gained increasingly wider popularity and recognition in the last few years. Such materials are used to fabricate dental prostheses from monolithic blanks and by layer-wise deposition of their fine powders on metallic substrates.
