The article contains results of the studies of influence of tree death prescription on the mechanical properties of dead wood in the centers of Norway spruce shrinkage. It was found that the strength and exploitative qualities of spruce wood are reduced in the direct proportion to the increase of tree death prescription. At the same time mechanical properties of wood are reducedslightly with the age of dead tree up to 5 years.

As a result of regeneration cuttings in Pinetum pleuroziosum formed pure and mixed stands in composition of natural origin (10Pine and 8Pine2Birch). Due to the presence in the composition of deciduous species are very important to timely silvicultural treatments for the successful formation of plantations with the target species composition. On the part of the mineralized areas considered significant amount of pine undergrowth, soduring regeneration cutting with harvesting and removal of logs from logging sites for the successful renewal is required soil mineralization.

This paper analyzes the structure of spruce stands of artificial origin according to natural diameter class. There have been found that the coefficient ofvariation and skewness of trees line distribution according to natural diameter class of spruce stands of artificial origin decreases maturing. It is revealed that a line of distribution according to natural diameter class in mature spruce artificial origin is more compact than in the spruce forests of natural origin. There have been found that the 5th grade spruce crops in three central natural levels are thicker than stands of natural origin by 11.6%.

Forest regeneration in black alder forests in Belarus

In the forest fund Belarus alder forests occupy 694.5 thousand hectares, which is 8.6% of the forested area. Among black alder forests we can distinguish primary and secondary ones. Primary black alder stands grow in hydromorphic peat-bog soils and secondary ones – in sod-podzolic automorphic and semi-hydromorphic soils where other species can grow (pine, spruce, oak). Cutting areas of primary black alder forests must be left for natural regeneration. Clear cutting sites of secondary black alder forest plantations are advisable to create pine plantations being the most productive ones. Depending on site conditions, annual economic impact of this operation ranges from 1.4 to 2.6 million rubles/hectare, and forest productivity increases by 6–7 times. Establishment of forest plantations of black alder is not recommended, since annual loss of forest amounts to about 3 million rubles/hectare.

The results of herbicides preemergence application in the deciduous species sowing department of forest nurseries are given here. Only herbicide Terrsanshowed reduction of biometric indices in the application dosage of 20 gr/hectare. The negative effectwas not observed when the quantity of the applied drug was reduced to a half. Good results were obtained in black alder sowings after their treatment with herbicides Grom and Zontran. Treatment of silver birch (Betulapendula) and black alder (Alnusglutinosa) sowings by herbicide Terrsanresulted in the planting stock death.

One of the main requirements is toextract seeds from new-gathered hybridized berries without prior stratification. The seeds are then sowed into the young bog peat. The article describes some aspects of the compositional and colour design solutions of flowerdecorative elements in the zones of pedestrian activity in the residential spaces of the central part of Minsk. Among the investigated compositions there was found a clear dominance of landscape style, but there was no clear pattern in terms of levels of compositional and colour grades depending on the location and type of composition. At the same time, the comparative analysis of the seasonal changes of the colour decisions of ornamental compositions on the zones of the pedestrian activity in the residential areas of the central part of Minsk showed visible differences in colour design in the spring and summer and autumn periods.

The сurrent stage of development of hunting in Belarus can be called transition from extensive to intensive development of wildlife, from the predominance of public hunting animals to state public with a maximum commercialization. It is important to determine the impact of this transition. As a result of studying the experience of the trophycase in Europe, assess the situation with growing trophies in Belarus and comparing the results of certain conclusions that allow us to say that a problem is detected in hunting activities – against the background of a relatively small number of red deer observed withdrawal from the male population with high trophy qualities horns without regard to their maximum ages, which in turn leads to significant losses in the reproductive process of the population.

Calculation accuracy of growing stock by different methods when fulfilling visual-measuring forest inventory

The article analyzes calculation accuracy of growing stock by different methods when fulfilling visual taxation of forest. It is shown that the methods currently used in practice have significant systematic error leading to underestimation of growing stock. Distribution modeling of stem diameter on the basis of the average diameter ofthe stand and series of the distribution of natural diameter classes makes it possible to increase significantly the accuracy of calculation of growing stock and reduce the systematic error. More accurate methods of growing stock calculation are also more labor-intensive in terms of calculations. However, the widespread introduction of computing machinery into practice of forestry makes this disadvantage insignificant. Thus, the higher labour intensity in growing stock calculation the higher its accuracy.

This article provides a brief analysis of forest mensuration deciphering digital images by using GIS technologies. The short review of the basic methods of deciphering of digital satellite images is done. The technique of performance of works to determine deciphering characteristics of stands is described and results of analysis of correlation between data had been done from ground-based inventory and measurement interpretation of digital images. It was revealed that there were close interrelations between mensuration and deciphering characteristics of forest stand.

The article deals with the analysis of the influence of the birch trees impurity in pine-birch forest standss on the radial growth of pine trees. With the help of software Q-GIS forest trees mapping was done. Also using Q-GIS features, someanalysis of the influence of the forest stands spatial structure on pine trees characteristics was carried out. Based on anassessment of the radial growth of pine stems, some classification into three groups according to the growth intensity was done. As a result of a regression analysis the effect of forest stands characteristics of birch trees in biogroups on radial growth of pine stems was indicated and researched.

Forests and forest resources are the main renewal natural resource in Belarus, the important composite of the ecological-economic safety of our country. One of the main direction of the increase of ecological and economic forest possibilities is the optimization of species and ageclasses structure of forests. Optimization of species structure of forests including that of Ministry of Forestry has been made according to materials of the soil-site forest inspection, state assessment of forest, the data from GIS “Forest resources”, ecological-economic valuation of forests in the forest cadastre. Economic effect of optimization of forest species structure is being determined on the database of state assessment of forests, optimal forest species structure, timber volumes of reforestation pine, spruce and oak stands instead of the birch stands. Total annual economic effect of forest species structure optimization is 101 billion rubles. The greatest economic effect for one hectare of forest accounts for enterprises of Mogilev (19.0 million rubles) and Vitebsk (18.3 million rоrubles) forestries. The economic efficiency of forest species structure optimization is 3,3%.

The parameter of the volume increment are added tothe mock “The description of elements of a forest” standard form of the viewing attributive databases GIS “Forest resources”. The article presents the results of the 3 years of phenological development observations of maple sprouts, depending on the date of seeds sowing. Experimental autumn and spring sowings of maple seeds in the nursery sowing department are selectedas objects. Seedlings, grown with the autumn sowing of winged seeds are 7–10 days ahead in the development of the spring sowing seedlings. It is also found out that the seasonal development is closely associated with the effective daily average air temperatures indices (?+5°C).

The article presents the results of a formation of forest vegetation on excessively moist-forest lands Tumilovichi forestry over a long period of time. Found that for almost 50 years due to conduct a largescale hydraulic engineering reclamation occurred translating marsh land covered with forest. The proportion of forest land to 94.4% and forested areas to 91.2% of the total forest area. The share of forest crops increased 15-fold, and makes 31.7% of the forested land. Shrub-cotton grass-sphagnum and sedge forest after hydrotechnical reclamation reclamation accounted for as derivatives shrub-green moss forest.

Found that on plantations with stand density of trees in the 8–11-year age 1000 and 2000 trucks on per 1 ha hearths of root sponges do not appear until 48 years of age. The paper dwells upon size-quality characteristics of cones and sowing qualities of European larch seeds harvested from different plantations (forest cultures and seed plantation), their age being different. As a result of the investigation it has been identified that qualitative and quantitative characteristics of European larch forest seeds harvested from forest and seed plantations show no considerable differences. A significant difference has been found for sowingqualities of seeds. It has been stated that with increasing age the seed germination increases from 0–20% (biological age of 8 years) to 34.5–35.6% (biological age of 10 years). The paper gives some recommendations on European larch cones harvesting taking into account its biological features.

Influence of Emistim-Сdrug on seeds germination of common pine and common spruce was studied both in vitro and in the open soil conditions. Its protective properties against seedlings infectious lodging were examined. On the basis of the comparative analysis of germination of seeds treated with Epin and soaked in water a conclusion is drawn that Emistim-Сhas a stimulating influence on seeds germination, and a bigger effect is observed when treating the common spruce seeds and long-term storage seeds. The best results were shown by the dosage of 2 ml/l. The drug protective properties against infectious lodging are a little bit lower than that of the fungicide Raksil, however, the last does not possess the effect of growth processes stimulation. Treatment by this drug in the open soil had reliable influence on better development of root systems, and also on the planting stock height.

In the article the process of natural reforestation after the continuous cutting down of fir groves before the suburban forest of Minsk is examined. Is evaluated the state of forests near Svityaz lake, and also the degree of the recreational improvement of this territory. It is established that the vacationers more frequently use southwestern and northeastern shores of lake. The greatest degree of recreational improvement is revealed on the grassy beach of southwestern shore and before the forest adjacent down it. More than half of forests (54.1%) of those utilized for leisure they relate down those strongly disrupted and those degraded, which is explained as far as the fourfold exceeding of recreational load. Recommendations up the restoration of the disrupted forest ecosystems are given.

Here there are results of studies of common pine plantations created in 2004 by the line-hole seeding, with the help of manual and automated planting of two-year seedlings into the furrow bottom after plowingby the plow ПКЛ-70 on the plot, taken out from agricultural use. It is found out that creation of forest plantation of the common pine by sowing seeds on former agricultural lands is not reliable, because a large number of plants die in the first years of life, and the remaining plants occupy the area unevenly, arranged in rows of clumps. Pine plantations created with the help of manual and automated planting grow successfully and at the age of 7 have no significant differences in taxation indices.

The article focuses on the results of species composition research and diversity of the decorative coniferous plants collection of the botanical gardenparterre of Belarusian State Technological University, introduced in 2004–2010. The classification of decorative forms of coniferous species has been specified, the qualitative and quantitative features of plants have been evaluated determining their decorative features, growth and conditions in the plantation. The paper gives some data on the study of increment parameters of some decorative junipers by their height and crown diameter. Some conclusions have been made as to the efficiency of using decorative forms of coniferous species in the composition plantations of the parterre of BSTU botanical garden and their prospects for landscaping of Minsk urban area.

In this work the age dynamics of families growth of hybrid-seed plantations of Pinussylvestris in test cultures of different ages, created inNemansko-Predpolessky and Berezinsko-Predpolessky forest growing areas is studied. It is established that the seed-bearing breed of hybrid-seed plantations of Pinussylvestrisis characterized by the intensive height growth and preserves the inherent high growth energy over a period of 10-year tests. Methodological characteristics of wood hardness determination

According to the Standard wood hardness is found by two methods: the main one – by pressing the standard puncheon into 5.64 mm in wood and the additional one by pressing the puncheon into 2.82 mm, the calculation of numerical values of hardness is done according to the formulas. The investigations found out that the numerical data received by the mentioned above methods differ essentially. The additional method gives overstating value in determining cross section hardness of dry wood by 12.1% and by 5–6% of moist wood, and in determining radial section hardness it gives understating values by 20.3% of dry wood and by 27.7% of moist wood. The paper gives an explanation of the difference in values received by both methods. Thus in defining wood hardness the additional method cannot be used instead of the main one due to its large error.

Classification of soils is to be done by codes, which indicate the productivity (bonitet), the reference (prospective) tree species, soil evaluation in points and the index shows class of forests (1st – forest of insufficient moisture, 2nd – of excessive moisture). In a forest station there have identified 16 types of soils by codes: from IIIP561to IIIAl142. Soil IP771(60,7 %) is prevailing. Soils IIP681 and IаP891 occupy a much smaller area (13%). In the second class of forests, which account for 12% of the most frequently occurring soils IP772(6.4%) and IIP682(2.7%). The average score of forest stands is 45 and that of soils is 75 points. With an average stand density of 0.72 the stands evaluation is below the maximum by 55 points (100 – 45), due to the group of forests it is lower by 2 (100 – 98), due to site conditions by 23 (98 – 75), due to stand density by 21 (75 – 54) and due to species composition by 9 points. Forest productivity may be increased by 30 points by controlling the species composition and stand density.

Fungal diseases of leaves are the dominant biotic factors of deterioration of sanitary state of main wood species, used in planting of greenery in Belarusian cities. 24 phytopathogenic species are discovered in the green plantations. The following measures allow to control development of fungal leaf spots: from agrotechnical – type of planting, timely care of woody plants, from chemical – 3–4-fold spraying of fungicides scor, falcon, prozaro, previcur in nurseries. Times of treatment are coordinated with dynamics of pathogens. At the sametime biological efficacy reaches 79–100%. Application of biological preparation frutin is effective on the horse-chestnut and maple plantings in the urban conditions. Biological efficacy reaches 80–86%.

The article presents the results oftree and shrub species introduction from the region of Japan and China in a botanical garden of BSTU. Have been determined that conservation of species collection is about 75%. Mortality of species associated with changes of its area and environmental conditions of growth and the felling of certain tree and shrub species at the time of care.

Object of research is the marsh woods of the Belarusian reservoir of the Neman River. It is established that for expired five decades after drying melioration (the 60th years of the ХХcentury) in the Neman River reservoir practically disappeared the woods on bogs of riding type. Today the woods of low-lying type (86.2%) presented by fifteen forest formations, including birch (40.5%) and european alder (40.2%) prevail. About 21% of the area of the marsh woods are occupied with derivatives (not radical) forest stands. Higher carbonproductivity of the marsh woods in comparison with the woods on a waterless valley is revealed. Research is executed within the Project of the international technical assistance “The Baltic landscape in development – innovative approaches to steady forest landscapes” by request of the republican unitary enterprise “Belgosles”.

Analysis of piece by piece methods of round wood mesurements

Based on literature review piece by piece methods of round wood measurements employed in different countries are briefly discussed. An analysis of round wood volume tables from GOST 2708–75 in comparison with the Lithuanian volume tables showed positive values of deviations that indicates larger values in “Lithuanian” volumes (up to 10% for butt and middle logs and 15% – for top logs, although for butt logs over 70 cm diameter the differences in their volumes are around 2% only). The main working method of upper diameter (STB 1667-2012, GOST 2708–75) was researched. 194 logs in 6 stacked batches were measured (diameters at both ends of a log (twice, rounding to 0.1 cm), and length (0.1 m)). The greatest deviations have been received when logs with increased taper coefficient (1–2 cm/m) are inventoried (–14.5% according to the formula of the “end cross-sections” (SmalIana) and – 13.1% – using formula of “truncated cone”). In our view, it is advisable to clarify the method of upper diameter based on the average value of taper coefficient in stacked batches of round wood (entering of amendments to the volumes from GOST 2708–75 on a log taper coefficient of real value).

Molecular phytopathological monitoring offorest nurseries revealed nine major Phomaspecies, which caused needle blight of pine and spruce (Ph. pomorum, Ph. macrostoma, Ph. herbarum, Ph.sp. 1-6). Comparative analysis of diagnostic loci identified major types of species differences, which are represented by mononucleotide substitutions, oligonucleotide deletions and insertions. Genus specific rDNA primers were designed for the subsequent diagnosis of pathogens in plant material and soil by PCR-assay.

The results of testing and assessment of biological efficiency of several current insecticides from neonicotinoids against pests of forest stands are reviewed. Their high efficiency against biting and suctorial pests of coniferous and deciduous stands is revealed. Application of the insecticides has led to reduction of pine stands damage caused by different groups of pests by 69.9–100%, of birch stands against aphides 100%. Obtained data are given to the firms for registration of the insecticides in the forest stands.
